All CMSM instructors are trained in instructional methods and teaching skills, so they can teach in a manner that permits the educational objectives of their course to be achieved. All faculty demonstrate a command of theory and practice, contemporary knowledge, continuing study in their field, and a minimum of three years of related practical work experience. Instructors in massage theory and practice techniques are licensed or meet the qualifications for licensure in the state of Missouri.
JANENE HILLBRICK, LMT, MS
Instructor: General Massage 1&2, Anatomy & Physiology 1&2, Kinesiology 1&2, Practice 1&2, Student Clinic 1&2, Business 1&2.
Janene is the co-founder and Director of the Clinical Massage School of Missouri (CMSM), LLC. She is a licensed massage therapist with her own private practice in Columbia, Missouri. A practitioner with over 25 years of experience in the massage therapy field, Janene specializes in what she refers to as a ‘structural sports massage’. Her techniques of choice are Muscle Energy Technique, Positional Release, cranial mobilization, and visceral mobilization. She believes that these techniques, when used appropriately, have a tremendous impact on the muscles and fascia in the body and its eventual well-being. The majority of her continuing education has been through the Ursa Institute, in Edmonds, Washington and Kinections (https://www.kinectionsinc.com/), Inc. in Sacramento, California. She had the privilege to learn from Dr. Loren ‘Bear’ Rex, DO and Lino Cedros, A.T., O.M.T., C.A.M.T.C.
All throughout her career Janene has been an avid proponent of corrective exercise and its healing impact on injuries. In 2022/2023 she took classes from Patrick Mummy with Symmetry AlignSmart in Folsom, California. Her decision to become a Symmetry practitioner was motivated by her desire to develop a more ‘analytical eye’ in assessing alignment and posture of clients and create a target-based corrective exercise treatment plan for clients. She believes that the coupling of massage therapy and corrective exercise is the ultimate game changer in the bodywork industry.
Janene’s continual commitment to the field of bodywork has given her the opportunity to teach aspiring massage therapists for several years at various locations: the Professional Massage Training Center in Springfield, MO; the Massage Therapy Institute of Missouri in Columbia, MO; and the Massage Program of the Columbia Area Career Center in Columbia, MO. She has given classes on topics including Event Sports Massage, Therapeutic Stretching, Positional Release, Muscle Energy Technique, Postural Analysis and Kinesiology for professional massage therapists
since 2011.
She is excited to begin this new journey with Sabreena and the Clinical Massage School of Missouri, LLC. She fondly remembers her teachers Jan Roberts and Lisa O’Leary from the Moscow School of Massage in Moscow, Idaho instilling this passion and drive inside her. She could not have done this without her mentors Esteban Ruvalcaba, Juliet Mee and Mirra Greenway, along with the support of all of her clients, friends and family.
SABREENA ANOWAR, PhD
Sabreena is the co-founder and Director of Clinical Massage School of Missouri (CMSM), LLC. A Transportation Engineer by profession with an undying passion for research, she is excited to apply her quantitative skills to a new subject matter. Mobility is the mantra of modern-day life. Generally, the term ‘mobility’ is very narrowly confined to vehicular mobility. What most of us tend to conveniently forget is – while the vehicle is in motion, our bodies are completely sedentary inside it. More and more research studies across different regions are finding proof of the negative health impacts of such sedentary (motorized) transport behavior. Sabreena is intrigued to learn about how the combination of massage therapy and corrective exercise could help mitigate the negative health impacts. This motivated her to co-found CMSM where massage therapists will be taught how to seek and consult published research and incorporate it into their day-to-day practice. Sabreena obtained her BSc in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Bangladesh, her MSc, and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering from University of Calgary in Canada and McGill University in Canada, respectively.
She has more than three years of active teaching experience in different universities including McGill University, Canada; University of Central Florida, USA and University of Missouri, USA.
